Musculoskeletal disorders are one of the largest health plan costs for employers. Effectively navigating the health care system at the time of need is the key factor in managing this issue. Physical Therapy as the entry point to care is the best kept secret in the conservative management of musculoskeletal disorders. This presentation teaches participants the positive impact of using physical therapy as a front line provider for musculoskeletal issues. Participants learn how they can assist employees in efficiently navigating the health care system; resulting in optimal outcomes, improved healthcare access, increased employee productivity and decreased health plan costs.

Understand why musculoskeletal care is so expensive to their health plan

Attendees will understand the how to design an employee benefit that will not only lower their total cost of health care, but also provide their employees and dependents with higher productivity and satisfaction as well

Redefine how employees purchase musculoskeletal care through insurance plan design and employee engagement strategies

1. Identify the impact of musculoskeletal care on health plan costs.

2. Recognize how typical utilization of healthcare drives high costs and limited outcomes.

3. Describe how Physical Therapy can improve navigation, cost and outcomes.

4. Discuss strategies to improve healthcare navigation with musculoskeletal conditions within the current resources of the participant's wellness program.


Jennifer has been helping employers lower their total health plan costs for over a decade. In her current role, she uses her experience with onsite clinics, wellness programs and insurance plan design to create innovative solutions focusing on musculoskeletal health.
